There are people who are truly in a life or death emergency situation and need help ASAP!

I was just listening to a recording of a fire scene where a man was calling out “MAYDAY”. The sad part was that the other firemen kept talking when they should have kept the airways clear for the man who was facing death. Unfortunately this situation ended tragically. It’s heartbreaking when you hear of stories like this. It hits home even more when it’s someone your husband was in the fire academy with.

I think sometimes we all go about our daily lives when there are people around us crying out “mayday” yet we continue on with our routine. We hear them and see them but we don’t slow down to see what’s wrong. I am guilty of this myself!

I think Matthew 25:35-40 says it the best…

“for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”

Helping others in need is not only the right thing to do, it honors God. If we help others, we help Him.

I hope you were encouraged! I pray that God will show you who you can help or encourage today! EnJOY your day!

Need A Hug?

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2

This is a verse that I try to pray over my family every day. I have really been encouraged by this verse this week!

Have you ever just needed a hug? My daughter (who is 19 months old) was in her crib for nap time today. It was one of those days where she just didn’t want to take a nap. I was downstairs watching her on the video monitor. She was crying (probably could have won and Emmy for her performance)…then I noticed she kept putting her arms out and saying something. So I listened closely and I heard her say “hug”. It just melted my heart (you know I had to go give her one).

My daughter reaching out and asking for a hug is a great picture of us reaching out to God when we are feeling overwhelmed. We always need Him but there are times when we really NEED Him. Ya know what I mean?

Can you imagine what it’s like for God to see us reaching out to Him when we are feeling overwhelmed. He wants to help! Like a natural father, He wants to fix it!

God has a great view…actually He has the BEST view! We obviously know that He is higher than us because He is in heaven but sometimes I think we forget that He is that “rock” or “strength” that is higher than us. He has the strength to take care of the challenges we are facing!

Thanks for reading! I hope you were encouraged by God’s Word!

Need Advice?

“There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand.”  Proverbs 19:21

In this verse the word “counsel” means “advice” and the word “stand” means “abide, be clearer, confirm, decree”.

We all face decisions. Whether it’s what clothes to put on, what house to buy, what job to take…the list goes on. I am so thankful to have God there to give me “advice” on my decisions. Sometimes the answers seem clear and other times they seem a little fuzzy. When it seems like the answers aren’t as clear, I know that I need to spend more time reading His Word and listening. There’s never a problem with God. 🙂

I love to chat with my friends! What girl doesn’t! HELLO! A woman speaks SIX TO EIGHT THOUSAND WORDS A DAY! If we could only get a dollar per word! Now that would be amazing! Actually, I bet some men would pay money for us to not say as many words! 🙂

Anyway, back to the listening part…sorry had to take a rabbit trail. I try to be a good listener because I’ve realized that’s how I learn new things. If I’m always talking, I don’t learn anything new. I already know everything about me!

So with that said, just like I find out new things about my friends by listening to what they say, I find out new things that God has for me by listening to what HE says (whether it’s by reading the Bible or just by putting aside all my electronics and sitting quietly listening to God).

I really love this verse! The Lord’s advice will be clearer! That is my prayer for myself today; that God’s advice would be clearer in my life.

Thanks for reading! EnJOY your day!

What You Say Can Determine Your Day!

Proverbs 18:21

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (NKJV)

When I was holding my daughter yesterday I said to her “I love you” and she looked and me and said “lud you”. Then she hugged me! It just melted my heart. One thing is for sure — I want to speak “life” words into my daughter’s life.

I also want to speak life words into my own life and into the lives of those around me. Our words have power and they can have a tremendous affect!

Have you ever said “This is going to be a bad day”? I know when I have said that, it ended up being a bad day!

When God created the world He spoke things into being.  I believe that we frame our world with our words. Please understand, I’m not saying we are God. We all know THAT would be a scary sight (scarier than seeing my mother-in-law in her moo moo…sorry Mama B…I know, I’m supposed to be speaking life words but this comment is in parenthesis, so it means I just thought it, I didn’t say it)! 🙂

My “dad” (Pastor Jim Frease) in the faith says “What you continually SAY will eventually STAY”. This is so true!

The Message Bible says: “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” Wow! I’d say that’s to the point!

Since it’s my choice — I choose to use words that give life!

EnJOY your day!

Me and My Big Mouth!

Proverbs 21:23

“Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.”

Ok so this verse totally kicks my tushy! Sometimes I need to learn when to shush! Ever been there?

When I was a teenager I was smarting off to my dad (I know it’s hard to believe). He said to me “Not another word!”. I couldn’t take it…I just had to say something, so I said “Well!”. My dad would say again “I said not another word” and again I said “WELL!”. This went on for a few rounds. I just didn’t get it! Trust me the end result was not in my favor. It was like everything within me HAD to say something! I couldn’t shut my mouth!

Now there are some times when we need to speak up. There are also times when we need to hold our tongue and not say a word. That’s a hard task for some of us! I could have saved myself from being grounded a zillion times (ok it wasn’t that many times but it sure felt like it) by just shutting my big mouth.

So you are saying to yourself…I thought this blog was a joyful blog. It is! 🙂 God’s Word is the encouraging Word. If we just listen to what the Word says and then do it, we will save ourselves from getting into trouble! I don’t know about you but when I’m not getting into trouble, I’m a happy camper! 🙂 It’s easier for JOY to flow in my life!

I hope you were encouraged today!

The Best Way to Walk

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”  Proverbs 20:7

We all know that what we do affects our children and this verse confirms it. Kids aren’t as interested in what we say as they are in what we do.

When I looked up the word integrity for this verse in my Strong’s Concordance it is defined as: “innocence, full, perfect (ion), simplicity, upright”. This is linked to another Hebrew definition. It defines it as “one of the epithets of the objects in the high priest’s breastplate as an emblem of complete Truth.”

I love that description! Integrity is COMPLETE truth. It is vital that as parents we are completely truthful with our kids (and obviously in all other areas of our lives too). It is completely clear in this verse that our children will be blessed if we walk in complete truth.

I’ve heard many people say that they told their kids a “white lie”. White lies are non-existent in my book because there isn’t anything “white” or “pure” about a lie.  Wouldn’t you agree?

It is so encouraging to know that my daughter will be blessed by my husband and I walking in complete truth. I want her to be blessed in all areas of her life! I’m sure you feel the same way about your kids (or future kids)!

Dan The Man!

There are several people in the Bible that I admire. One being Daniel. I am amazed at his steadfast faith and trust in God. I can’t even imagine being thrown into a lion’s den or a furnace. Are you kidding me? I’m hiding in my home with the A/C cranked because we have 90 degree weather right now! 🙂

The Bible mentions a couple times that Daniel has an excellent spirit. Daniel 6:3 says, “Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.” (Also see Daniel 5:12)

The word excellent means: “possessing outstanding quality or superior merit; remarkably good; extraordinary.”

Daniel stood out above the rest! He was not only a man dedicated to prayer, he also allowed God to lead him. I have no doubt that Daniel lived a life of joy.

I believe that these 3 factors go hand in hand with an excellent spirit: Having a dedicated prayer life, allowing God to lead, and being full of joy.

The ordinary way = ordinary results

The excellent way = extraordinary results

I don’t know about you but I want extraordinary results in my life!
